Christ Jesus
ARTICLE IV – CHRIST JESUS
Christ is the second person
in the Trinity, Christ is very God (Joh 10:38, Joh 20:27-28), and God’s self-revelation
to man in the context of Redemption. All of
the persons of the Trinity are Coequal and Coeternal.
Christ is the “only
begotten,” which means that Jesus was not created by the Father. Jesus has existed eternally with the Father and the
Holy Ghost where there was love, communication, and purpose (Eph 1:4-5).
Jesus was born of the Virgin
Mary (Mat 1:20-25), by Immaculate Conception, by the power of the Holy Ghost. Christ’s nature:
- He is the Son of God
- He is the second person of the Trinity
- He is very and eternal God, and of one substance and equal with the Father
- In the fullness of time, He took upon Him man's nature
- He was conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost, in the womb of the Virgin Mary, of her substance, so that two whole, perfect, and distinct natures (the Godhead and the manhood), were inseparably joined together in one person, being very God and very man
- Christ is the only Mediator between God and man (1Ti 2:5)
- Christ nature as a man is without sin and in perfect submission to His Divine Nature (and Image of God) and Divine Will. Temptation, means “testing,” and demonstrates Jesus’ perfect obedience, that He was “without spot or blemish” (Mat 4:1-11, Luk 4:1-13, Mat 26:36-46, Heb 2:18, Heb 4:15)
- Jesus is our High Priest (Heb 5:1-10)
- Jesus died to make atonement for our sins and perpetually represents us at the Father’s right hand as our Intercessor
- At His first coming, He overcame Satan and initiated a kingdom of righteousness, and His disciples (endued with the power of the Holy Ghost), preach the gospel of the kingdom (Act 28:22-31) rescuing men from the kingdom of Satan and leading them to the kingdom of Christ (Col 1:13)
- Christ the King is returning to establish His kingdom on earth as well as in heaven, and we that have saving faith shall reign with Him (Act 1:11, Mat 25:31, Mar 13:26, Joh 14:3, 2Th 1:7-10, Rev 1:7)
